Spiritual Grounding in Times of Political Strife:
6 Personal affirmations for election season

Within the last month, many people have shared with me their version of our collective political angst. I see the chasm of their grief and their fear, and it calls me to seek a space of groundedness and healing through spiritual leadership.

Growing up in a family of Jehova’s Witnesses, who did not vote or partake in “worldy” activities of politics, I learned this:

  • No matter who wins this or any election, it will not change who I am and the way I show up in the world.
  • I will still be a loving mother, teacher, lover, sister, and friend.
  • I will continue to care for my family and create safe communities for our youth.
  • I will continue to teach our children to be stewards of the earth and good citizens of the world.
  • I will continue to delight in the joys of watching the families and children of my FB friends grow in love.
  • I will never wish for others what would harm or threaten me and my loved ones.

No matter who wins or loses, we are called to be our best selves in the world every day.
